Custom Large Cribbage Board

 This board was created for a client who wants to give it to his 87 year old father who has macular degeneration and doesn't see too well any more especially in low light situations. He loves to play cribbage but has a terrible time seeing those tiny holes.

The board measures in  around 9 inches wide and 24 inches long and was created out of pine.  The holes were drilled for 3/16th inch and come with large custom metal pegs.

Custom Sensory "Bean Table"

Update:  The Bean Table has been delivered and was a big success with everyone. I now know that this type table is also called a sensory table and is used  to teach shapes, colors, different textures, numbers.....etc.... the list is endless.  It was wonderful to see it in action and learn the true meaning of its function.

 This table is being built for a very active two and 1/2 year old who just happens to be my granddaughter .  I have no idea what a bean  table is, I am just building it to the specs I was given.. I was told build it for a two year old to try and tear up... So of course I probably over designed it.     It is around 25 inches x 27 inches wide and 20 inches tall.

It was made out of pine with an MDF table top insert. The top lip was added and is rounded over to provide a smooth surface for anyone playing on it.

It has two layer, the bottom layer is an enclosed space for counting beans or any other thing which might need contained...perhaps a puzzle..

The table top will be painted with a chalk board paint so it can be used for writing or drawing on. The top can be easily removed.

Periwinkle blue paint will be the main coat after a coat of primer to seal the wood.  Once I have several coats of paint on and they are dry, I will add a coat of polyurethane to provide a clear protective surface.  Hopefully this will all happen quickly as this needs to be somewhere by Christmas.... and the sleigh leaves early Friday morning.

Custom Cribbage Boards For Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon

This order of 50 custom cribbage boards is being created for Deschutes Brewery in Bend Oregon. The boards measure in at 9 inches long x 7 inches wide.  They are being made of Fir/larch and will be coated with a hand rubbed polyurethane.  There is a metal slot routed in the back to store the custom metal pegs.

Deschutes custom logo was lasered into the center of the track on these custom boards.

Centennial Sign for Anniversary Gift.

This sign of the Glacier National Park Centennial logo is being made for a client as a anniversary gift for his wife. They were married in Glacier 10 years ago.

It was created using a native wood and measures in  at 12 inches wide and 18 inches long.  A decorative edge was routed around the border of the sign and a slot was put on the back for hanging.

The client asked for a photo of the artisan (me) with the sign so they would know it had been touched and created by human hands.   I decided I could take it to Lake McDonald and then they would also know it had been created near Glacier National Park where they were married. 

Sign has bee been sanded and edged.  The first coats of finish have been applied.

Sign for New Glacier Institute Building

I had the privilege of creating this plaque to be placed in the new kitchen building that was being built at the field camp of the Glacier Institute in Glacier National Park.

The Glacier Institute Announces a Boy Scout Service Project in Glacier National Park


The project coined “Hands Across the Continent”, was inspired by a deep passion for nature and scouting. A former Scout leader has graciously donated funds to rebuild a dining hall/classroom for the Glacier Institute – and will supply the manpower as well. Construction begins in July when thirty Scouts, parents and leaders cross the country by bus for a service project in Glacier National Park – an endeavor that will benefit visitors for years.

Custom ladder for bunk beds.....

This is a project that has been on my list to do for some time, but wasn't really needed until this time of the year.




It soon will be used at all the family gatherings at their cabin in the woods.



I am sure the parents will be glad to no longer have to lift the kids up onto the top bunks..

There is something special about being allowed on the top bunk and I am sure these girls are anxious to be the first ones up the ladder.

For strength and to match the decor of the cabin it is being created out of pieces of Fir/Larch and will be given a light golden stain.

As you can see in the photo, the original ladder was one made out of metal and had seen its better days through years of use and many generations of families. I think it was an RV ladder in a previous life.

The sides have been milled and here I have routed the dado's to hold the rungs. The ladder is 78 inches tall and 13 1/2 inches wide. I cut a slight bevel on the bottom of each leg so as to give it a incline, making it a bit easier to use.

Here the rungs have been installed and have now been glued and clamped.  Once the glue sets I added some long screws into each end of the rungs for added strength.

The ladder has now been sanded and is awaiting some stain and a thick coat of polyurethane finish. There will be a pair of metal brackets attached when the new owners mount it on the bunk bed rails.

The sanding and the poly coating is completed and we are ready to get this ladder mounted.


There will be many little feet as well as probably many big feet climb this ladder.  Enjoy and be safe.....It has been a pleasure creating this for you.
