Splinters Woodworks Update

 Sorry for the lack of posting here for a while, it has went from busy to busier....and now it is almost fall and we must prepare for the long winter ahead.........  I will try and catch up on new projects posts, new shop addition post, and  all else soon.   However, it could be a while before I return to regular posting, first I need to catch up on orders and business paperwork.  Please have patience, I am a one person shop and some days there is just not enough hours, or perhaps I am trying to cram too much into those hours....
The new shop addition is a real treat to work in, but I am still in the process of creating a smooth working environment.

Custom Large Four person Inlayed Cribbage Board SHIPPED.........

This king size cribbage board is finished and was taken to Fedex yesterday for delivery.
The packing was completed  for a safe journey to its new home in Bakersfield, California...

Custom football shaped cribbage board - UPDATE

I received the four person cribbage board today and was thrilled with the result!!! It is beautiful and the cherry finish is perfect. This board has been shipped to its new home in Torrance, California. It was made out of Cherry and personalized with the new owner initials being lasered into the board.

It was 8 inches wide x 16 inches long x 1 inch thick.

Each board comes with a set of custom metal pegs and a deck of cards.

Iraq shape cribbage boards for fellow Veterans.

These four boards are on their way to their new home. 

They will be presented to individuals just returning from a tour in Iraq with the Army.

It was a real honor to be asked to create these boards.

THANK YOU for doing what you do and serving our country.


This request came from a fellow Veteran via email currently serving in Iraq with a MASH unit. They contacted me asking if I thought this was something I could do. Of course I said I would sure give it a try. It will have the unit patch and some lettering on it and will be presented as an award.


This is a map shape I found online, after importing it into CorelDraw I outlined the shape and saved as an AI file which the CNC router could recognize.

Here is the nice piece of dark walnut which has been cut into the shape with the cribbage track drilled in.  It is a three person board and measures approximately 14 inches wide and 15 inches tall.  There will be a slot placed on the back to hold the pegs and a keyhole so it can be hung on the wall.

The lasering of the first board is done and was done by Northern Lights Engraving in Columbia Falls, MT.
Now the board must be sanded and the poly coats applied.

Custom Maple with a strip of walnut Cribbage board....

  We LOVE the cribbage board – my husband was very pleased and surprised – and we’ve had many good games in the last two weeks!

" Lucky at cards and Lucky in Love!"   is the motto which has been engraved on this board and is now on its way to its new home in Colorado.

It is made out of hard maple with an inlayed strip of walnut.


It is 8 inches wide and 15 inches long.  The lettering was done using an epilog laser machine.

Custom pizza peels for Whole Foods Market in Fort Collins, Colorado

These custom pizza peels are on there way to their new home in Colorado.

They were created out of birch and are 8 inches wide and 29 1/2 inches long, with a six inch handle.

We are super happy with the peels!

Large custom pizza peels ship to Caputo's Pizzeria in Philadelphia

This is the second large peel in glue up.

It is also made of birch and is a monster.  The paddle is 30 inch x 30 inch with around a 26 inch handle, making the overall peel about 56 inches long.

Out of glue up and cut to shape on the band saw.... Sanding has started....

Large Custom Four Person Hard Maple Cribbage Board

This Custom Cribbage Board will be made out of hard maple and is being made for a specific request of a client in Wisconsin. This is a second request of a  re-creation of the board that has been played on in their family for years.

The board will be 26 inches long and 11 inches wide. It is a four person board and will have a slot on the back to hold the custom metal pegs when not in play.

 I created this based on the input from my client. Using CorelDraw to lay this drawing out and design gives me great freedom to basically create any board design I want to create or re-create.

Once it is formatted  a ShopBot CNC router will be used  to drill the holes, router the guidelines and do the lettering on the board. The edging and the slot on the back for pegs will be done with a basic router. I will apply a hand rubbed polyurethane finish once the final sanding has been completed.

This board is different and actually is something I have heard a lot of comments about at shows,  markets and from web inquiries.  Folks have trouble following their track around the board. This design will have engraved lines between each track and with the groups of five also separated.  In the future I will include this style as both a regular or custom item.  I think it would really add class to inlay a different color wood in as the guidelines.

In addition, the client has requested that triple S's be placed between holes 30 and 35 for triple skunk, double S's be placed between holes 60 and 65 for double skunk, and one S be placed between 90 and 95 for a standard skunk. " Start" has been added after the home pegholes and "I WIN" at the pegout hole.

Large custom pizza peels for the Caputo's Pizzeria in Philadelphia

This is the beginning of  two large peels to soon be heading to Pennsylvania.

The smaller of the two is a 26 inch peel and the larger one is a 30 inch peel.  They are being made out of birch and will have a thicker handle to support the weight of these monster pizza's......

Here I have laid out some boards i will use to maintain the alignment of the peel.

Each joint is biscuited and glued to give it maximum strength and durability.

The clamps are in place for 24 hours. Once they come off the scraping and shaping  will begin.

The 30 inch peel will be constructed in the same manner, except a lot more clamps are involved.
