Custom Baseball Handled Pizza Peel for Mike Scioscia

This custom pizza peel is being made for a client as a gift for Mike Scioscia—manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California and former player for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, due to the written conditions of the copy write permission letter I can't show you a full photo of the complete project. Sorry...just use your imagination.

The peel was made out of ash with the handle being turned on a lathe to look like a baseball bat.  It measures in at 18 inches wide x 31 inches long.

The lettering was done using an Epilog laser. For some reason the board did not darken the letters like normal, so I had to get creative.

Knowing the peel would be used for actually making pizza's, it had to be food safe. There are not a lot of food safe stains that I could find. A simple remark from my local Home Depot paint clerk helped me make my choice.  "You should just use food coloring"  We tried it..let it dry and then coated it with a food grade mineral oil.  I think it turned out awesome.
