Lady Bug Box Style Cribbage board...UPDATE.

Here we are...the Lady Bug has emerged in all its glory...















We are one step closer.






The track has been drilled and now the Lady Bug will be lasered on the top.







The inside pockets for the cards and pegs have been drilled out.


This is being created as a just because present for a client. It is being made out of Bloodwood(named for the color only to give us the red body of a Lady Bug.

The lady bug will be lasered into the wood and the spots will be darkened to give the impression of being black. Selecting the boards for glue-up went well. here it is before applying the glue and clamps.




This is a photo of what the Lady bug will look like. The track will run on both sides and across the right end of board.
I know it may be hard to imagine now, but I think it will come out very cool.








Here the glue and clamps have been applied. This wood comes in smaller sizes I had to glue boards up to make the size i needed.

The clamps have come off, one of these will be the top of the box and the other will be the bottom.

Glacier National Park Centennial

I have received approval to create wood products using the Centennial logo. Here is one sample that I am working on.
There will be other projects with the Centennial logo created, but those plans are currently in th3e planning stages. If you have a special request please let me know what it is.

The logo has been lasered on to a shape of the State of Montana. There will be a cribbage track drilled in the top and right of the board.

For all sales of items with this logo 5% of the price will go back to the Centennial fund to help Glacier National Park.

Montana State Shape 4 Person Cribbage Board is headed to Billings, Montana

Here is a custom Montana shape 4 person cribbage board with a lasered photo of a Glacier National Park Grizzly.









This is an actual photograph of a grizzly bear cub taken in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park by Bob Chin. The photo was lasered onto the hard maple using an Epilog laser.

Work has began on several new Glacier National Park Cribbage Boards.................

I have been working on creating some new designs using this lasered shot of the map of Glacier National Park.

Once the file was vectored it was turned into a jpeg that the laser machine could understand. I wanted to be able to laser a photo of it on boards and I wanted an outline which would allow me to cut out a shape of the park.

The map highlights some of the major features that are in Glacier National Park:

The continental divide that runs north and south through the park. The Going to the Sun Road that cuts across the park.

You can also see a number of the lakes that are there:

Lake McDonald, St Mary, Two Medicine, Swift Current, Kintla, Bowman, Quartz, and Logging.

The same logo was lasered on a cutout shape of Montana, approximately where it is located in the state,

This will have a cribbage board track drilled on the bottom of the board, a storage slot on the back and a keyhole slot if someone would want to hang it on the wall.

The lasered jpeg will also appears here on another style of cribbage board. This board is a maple with a strip of walnut.

This board will have a different track layout and can be made into a box style cribbage board.

This is a larger version of the jpeg without the lakes and road.
Glacier National Park lettering will be lasered with the option of also having a personal photo someone might like.

The metal template on the right is what I use to create consistent track layouts. Once the holes are drilled the template will be removed.

Splinters is honored to have been chosen to create this special cribbage board for this tournament.



It is made out of hard maple and is in the shape of the State of Montana.

It is roughly 9 inches wide x 15 inches long. It is a three person board and has storage on the bottom for the set of custom metal pegs that comes with this board. There is also a keyhole on the back in case they would like to display it on a wall.

The photo of the grizzly cub was taken in the Many Glacier Valley of Glacier National Park by Bob Chinn. Using a Epilog lasering machine the photo was burned into the wood by Blue Dragon LLC in Columbia Falls, Mt. As you can see the clarity of the photo really comes out as well as the lettering.

Custom Walnut w/ Birch inlay Cribbage Board...cont'd.....

Here is the finished product that is on its way from the cold mountains of Montana to the warmth and sun of Arizona.

The Birch inlays are functional, the center line divides the players and the horizontal one show the skunk line. There is a slot for storage on the bottom.

The board was personalized by lasering the new owners name in the bottom of the board. It is hard to tell in this photo but the bottom 4 inches of the board was left blank for the crib.

Custom Walnut w/ Birch inlay Cribbage Board

This board will soon be heading to its new home in the north country of Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, via the southern route through Mesa, Arizona.

This custom creation is 3/4 inch thick, 3 inches wide, and 24 inches long.

You can see in this photo the birch enlay being glued into it slot in the dark Walnut wood.

The edges will be beveled and a storage slot has been routed on the bottom of the board.



In this view I am showing the strips of birch being enlayed into the walnut to separate the two person track and to show the skunk line in the center.










This show the enlay ready for the track to be drilled and the personalized lasering of the name to be placed in the four inch area being set aside for the crib.

Custom Cherry w/Walnut Strip Cribbage Boards

This pair of box style cribbage boards are headed to a destination wedding as gifts of the bride.

The tops are being created out of 1 inch thick Cherry. With the bottom section being 1 1/8 inches thick. The finished boxes will be approximately 8 inches wide and 18 inches long.

The first photo shows the Walnut strip that has been inlayed into the cherry top. Once the track has been drilled there will be lasered lettering in the center of the board.



This is the bottom section of the box and in this photo I have got the pockets created which will hold the cards and the custom metal pegs.
This is done by using a mortising bit. The hand chisel shown is then used to clean up the pocket.

Once completed, the pockets will be lined with a coffee colored felt.

Will post more as the this project progresses and also the custom maple/walnut cutting board that is in progress.

Large Cherry Cribbage Boards heading to Massachusetts

The latest creations are two large cherry two person cribbage boards heading to Massachusetts.
They are 8 inches wide x 28 inches long with a slot on the bottom to hold the large two inch custom metal pegs. The edges of the boards have a 1/4 inch bevel for a different look.











These custom metal pegs created by Pete's Pegs really top off the board and will make playing easier and enjoyable.

Maple Cribbage board with a Walnut inlay..

This four person box style cribbage board was created for a client as a Christmas gift for her husband.


It was made out of hard maple with an inlayed walnut strip.

A light stain was applied to give it the darker look you see.

The board came with a set of custom metal pegs, a deck of cards, and set of instructions.
My client was very pleased with the outcome of her request. It is always very rewarding when clients are sincerely excited to see the finished product.

This is the inside of the box used to store the cards and pegs when not in use.




The pockets were finished out using a router and then covered with a coffee colored felt.

This photo shows the front lip which has a routed finger grove to make it easier to open the box.

Giant Lizard heading East....

The blizzard has passed and left in its wake chilly temperatures...brrr... thankfully the wood stove is heating away and the shop is warm..

This special request critter Christmas present says it has had enough of Montana and soon will be on its way to Wisconsin... I tried to tell it that Wisconsin was a lot like it is here, but it didn't feel like listening.

The lizard cribbage board is made out of dark walnut and is approximately 20 inches long and 13 inches wide. It has a two person track and was designed to be hung on the wall when not being used.


This is where Lizzie started its journey coming out of this 14 1/2 inch wide piece of walnut.


This is the initial raw wood cutout of the lizard of choice. You can't really tell, but it has patterns carved on the center of the back and also on the front legs.



This is after sanding of the board is complete and the gloss polyurethane has been applied. The rich grain pattern of the walnut really adds to the look. This photo was taken on a different camera with different lighting and backdrop giving it a different appearance.



And finally the track is now drilled, along with a game counter on the rear right leg. The next step is to do a final sanding and then apply the final coat of hand rubber poly. After that prepare it for it journey to the land of cheeseheads.

Idaho Cribbage Board

This is the latest completed cribbage board. It was a large board approximately 10 x 20 inches to be able to put the full track on the board. Created out of Hard Maple, as you can see the grain really showed through the clear poly finish nicely.


It additionally had lettering lasered on the bottom right, however I do not have a photo of that.

More personalized Montana Cribbage Boards

Two more Montana Cribbage boards are on there way to their new owners. These requests were different as you can see, using their motorcycle photo lasered on it and the other only the lettering.




The laser lettering was done by Blue Dragon LLC/ in Columbia Falls, Montana using a Epilog Laser.

Lake Wenatchee Cribbage Board Continued.....

I finished this crib board today and as you can see it came out nice. Because the base was a dark walnut the picture only gave us a silhouette of the mountain, trees and rocks, which I think give the board a nice feel and look, however it is not like the look we would have gotten on a lighter color wood.

The laser lettering was done by Blue Dragon LLC/ in Columbia Falls, Montana using a Epilog Laser.

Lake Wenatchee Cribbage Board

Production is in the start up stages for a three person cribbage board.






It will have this photo and the words Lake Wenatchee lazered in the center.

This is the boards which will make up the board. The base will be made out of the darker walnut with two inlays of maple running parallel lengthwise, with the holes between the inlays.





Slot has been routered in board in preparation for the inlays.

This is the board with the inlays glued in place and ready for sanding and shaping.

Once the board is completed I will rout on all four sides and create a slot on the back to hold the custom pegs.
