Large Pizza Peel for Paizano's Pizza

Work has began on a custom pizza peel for Paizano's Pizza in Baker City, Oregon. Follow Splinters exciting journey as another custom peel is created.

The wood chosen for this peel came from a nice clear piece of Birch.

Birch is chosen for its tight grain, appealing look, and durability. This peel will have a 25-26” paddle with an 18-24” handle, and will be used in the creation of Paizano's world famous 24 inch giant pizza's. OK...perhaps not world famous YET...but they will be!

The process continues with pieces of 5 inch wide birch being ripped to around 1/2 inch thick. The handle portion will end up around 3/4 inch thick and then molded to blend into the paddle.

This photo shows the cut to size wood pieces that will be used in this process.

This shows the boards laid out to visualize what the grain will look like.

Then the edges are jointed to ensure a tight bond when they are glued together. Before the gluing begins biscuit joints are placed in the edges of each board to give more stability and strength with the final product.

Once all this is done the peel is dry fitted together to make sure there is a nice tight fit in all the joints.

To be continued.......

Custom Flag Display Box

As a U.S. Navy Veteran, this project is one which I am very proud to have been part of.

It holds a folded 5 foot x 9 foot American flag and is made out of popular with a poly glass front and a fiberboard backing. It is designed to be displayed on a mantle, table top or hung on a wall. It measures 4 1/2 inches deep and is 26 inches per side and is protected by a hand rubbed semi gloss poly finish.
This box was created for a client who will give it as a gift to display the flag received as a remembrance of a brave service person who served in Iraq.

It can be made out of any type of wood. If desired a base can be added and a brass nameplate, as well as a decorative routed edge.

Custom Charred in Scarsdale Pizza Peel

The Charred in Scarsdale pizza peel is completed and in the process of being wrapped for shipping. Because of the darkness of the walnut used for the handle and center, the photos come out a bit dark. The Walnut and the Mahogany work very well together. It really turned out to be a beautiful peel.

This peel is 40 inches long and a 16 x 17 inch paddle. It was engraved with:

CHARRED IN SCARSDALE with a Large A in the paddle.

This is a closeup of the lettering done on the handle.

If you click on the photos it will give you an enlarged view.

Current Projects: Pizza Peels; Tables; Flag box...

With most of the necessary shop and home projects at least in progress or completed, it is time to get back into the shop production mode. I have various projects in one stage or another of completion, with a long list of more to follow.

Here are some of the client projects I am currently working on.
Custom Pizza Peel "Charred in Scarsdale"

This custom peel is currently in progress for a client in Connecticut.
The lettering has been laser engraved, the hole in the handle has been drilled and the peel has been cut to the finished size. I am in the finishing stages of sanding and hope to have this peel ready to ship very soon.

Thomas Train Play Table

This table is being created for a local client and will be used as a custom Thomas Train play table for a couple young guys. It is being created out of pine and will have a fiberboard top when completed. It is around 50 inches long and 32 inches wide with 18 inch legs. It will provide many hours of enjoyment.

The box is around 25 inches on each side and will be protected by a semi gloss poly finish. This item will become one of my standard items.

Additional Pending orders

In addition to these I have more confirmed orders for Custom Pizza Peels, Cribbage boards, index card boxes, games....and the order list continues on and on. I also am trying to prepare for upcoming fall holiday shows.

Please remember I am a one person shop and create each and every project from start to finish.

The wait is worth the product and all backed by my 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I appreciate your patience.

Follow Up On Custom Walnut Box

This photo was just provided by the client showing how the antique platter looks inside the custom walnut box.

The custom built box will provide protection for the platter when transporting or storing it and a beautiful way to display it when not in use.

Shop Enhancements

For some time I have been making do space wise in the shop. Trying to work out of a cramped space has been a bit of a challenge and one which I knew I had to change.
I had hoped to have a new shop built and moved into by this fall..however time, money and life's events will not allow that to happen this year.. So for now I will keep on keeping on...
This is the expanded section that I just finished building, allowing me to create a more productive ahop area.

These next two photos show the space where most everything was used before. This required me to move equipment to use other equipment...etc. Very time consuming. Hopefully the expansion allows me to have a bit more room to work in. I know you never have enough work space, and the more you do or try to do the more space you want. So for now I will be satisfied with what I have and get back to work.

Winter heat source stockpile...getting closer

Fall in the Rockies has been very very busy...as it usually is..

On top of all else going on..it has been my driving desire to stay warm this winter, so I had to make a to do priority list.. That drove me to finishing this first.

Depending on how harsh this winter presents itself I am hoping that this will be enough to at least get my stockpile of firewood started for this winter. Once it is all stacked and split I will have to go out and get some more. With all the Forest Service land around us and inexpensive firewood permits available, all that is required is your manual labor and the time to do it..Now I just have to find the time..

They say you heat yourself three times when you heat with wood.
Once when you collect it;
Once when you split and stack it;
and once when you burn it.

It is still the best for me. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting in front of a roaring wood fire one a cold snowy winter day. Not to forget it is a renewable resource and with the new efficient stoves now days not a huge pollution factor.
Remember the dollars spent in this country stays in this country! Buy items made in the USA!

Custom Pizza Peel "Charred in Scarsdale"

The unexpected trip to Seattle and stay there threw a monkey wrench into my progress. Having now returned finding my shop in complete disarray, I have made time to organize and extend my shop size. Trust me it was very necessary.
This is almost to completion now and I have also been trying to work on projects at the same time. I also had to work on getting firewood ready for the upcoming winter. (hmm didnt that just end?)
Anyhow..I am moving right along and hope to have some sort of schedule for pending projects soon.

This custom peel is currently in progress for a client in Connecticut. The lettering has been laser engraved, the hole in the handle has been drilled and the peel has been cut to the finished size. Now the fun part begins...the sanding and shaping of the peel.

More to follow on additional projects soon.. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
